Grand Lodge essentially administers, and has oversight over, Scottish Freemasonry in its totality. Provincial and District Grand Lodges represent Grand Lodge at a more local level. In Scotland Provincial Grand Lodges have oversight of particular geographical areas which, in the main, are based on counties. Although geographical boundaries roughly coincide with those of Local Government this is not always the case.
